"Title: Cow-a-bunga! Cow Parade Location: City Hall: Smith and Walker. Houston TX Artist: Chris Hedrick Curtis Cameron Sponsor: Duke Energy Made of Resin. Stands 4.75 tall. Cowabunga simulates an old 1948 Ford Woodie Station Wagon. The simulated portions were fabricated from durable foam as well as pre-formed Styrofoam. The foam was shaped, molded and adhered to the cow to simulate wood paneling and then sprayed with a hard coating of an epoxy polymer to give the foam structured durability and strength. Acrylic paint was then applied with an airbrush to simulate the wood as well as appearance of beach scenes mirrored in her windows. On top of the car-structure the surf theme was completed by mounting an authentic custom built surfboard made especially for this cow. All that is surfing fuels the cow. She was modeled after a 1948 Ford Woodie Station Wagon. These cars, due to their construction, were prone to deterioration and eventually fell apart. Surfers in this era would find these cars in poor condition and buy them up for cheap transportation to get to the beach. This, in turn, indirectly started an association with surfers and these cars. What better way to celebrate the artists?? fondness for nostalgia, art, passion for the beach and love of vintage cars other than a surf-cow-car?"
